World Cup Holders Italy almost provided the biggest shock so far when they fell behind to a first half headed goal to Paraguay. Their blushes were saved when they managed to scramble a goal in the second half after the Paraguay goalkeeper missed the ball completely as it was fired into his teams penalty area.

New Zealand scored a dramatic equaliser in the last minute to gain their first point in world cup finals football. For most of the match it seemed that they would be defeated by the more skillful and technically able Slovaks. A headed goal in the 50th minute was all that seperated the sides and, despite occassional Slovakian pressure and chances, New Zealand were always capable of creating the equaliser.
Result....New Zealand 1 v 1 Slovakia
Paraguay proved to good for a functional but uninspiring Slokavian team. A goal in each half allowed Paraguay to comfortably record an impressive victory.

In an exciting match New Zealand took a shock lead against the World Cup holders when Smeltz got on the end of a free kick and fired home after 6 minutes. The Italian team fought back strongly and eventually managed to win a penalty in the 29th minute which was converted by Laquinta. The Italian team played some excellent football in their pursuit of an equaliser and forced some first class saves from the New Zealand goalkeeper. At the other end New Zealand also went close with Wood just missing with a fine shot which zipped past the post with the Italian 'keeper beaten. Result....Italy 1 v 1 New Zealand
In an amazing game World Cup holders were defeated by Slovakia. The Slovak's, bottom of the group at the start of play created on of the biggest upsets in recent world cup history with Vittek scoreing twice before the Italians stuck pulled one back through Di Natalie in the 81st minute. However Kopunek's goal after 89 minutes made the Germans injury time reply scant consolation. Result....Italy 2 v 3 Slovakia In the same group leaders Paraguay took on New Zealand in a game both teams were keen to win but despite some good chances the game finished in a 0-0 draw which sends Paraguay through as group winners while the impressive New Zealanders end the competition in third place in the group - above departing champions Itay. Result....Paraguay 0 v 0 New Zealand
