Holland cruised through this match against Denmark with a comfortable 2-0 victory.
In a workman-like performance Holland had to wait until the first minute of the second half before a Danish defender handed them the lead by heading the ball into his own net. The second Dutch goal put matters beyond doubt.
In the same group the second game is between Japan and one of Africa's top teams - Cameroon.
The final game of the day is world champion's Italy opening their defence of the trophy against Paraguay in the opening game of group F.
Result....Holland 2 v 0 Denmark
One of the most fancied African teams, Cameroon, faced a blue Monday as they lost 1-0 to an efficient Japanese team in this mediocre match. The Japanese goalscorer, Honda, made sure his team started their campaign with three points, without having to move into top gear.
Result....Japan 1 v 0 Cameroon
Holland controlled most of this game with their usual blend of skilfull, controlled football. While a draw would have been a reasonable for both sides, it was Holland who won the match with Sneijder's swerving shot beating the Japanese goalkeeper midway through the second half. Chances for Japan were limited from this point and Holland were content to protect the victory in a functional rather than flamboyant manner and ease towards the next round.
Result...Holland 1 v 0 Japan
In an open and exciting game Denmark managed to gain a vital victory which sends Cameroon out of the competition. In a first half littered with basic defensive errors Eto'o managed to take advantage and fire the African's into an early lead. Goals from Bendtner and Rommedhal turned the game around though and despite frantic pressure from Cameroon in the later stages they are the first team out of the competition with a game left to play.
Result....Cameroon 1 v 2 Denmark

Leading by two goals at half time, Thomasson did give Denamrk a sliver of hope in the 81st minute but Okazaki's late strike put the game beyond doubt.
Denmark 1 v 3 Japan
In a game where Holland knew they had already qualified and the Cameroon team were definitely out of the competition if was the Dutch who maintained their form with another winning performanc. It was van Persie who gave the Dutch the lead after 35 minutes and despite Eto's scoring from the penalty spot, Holland sealed the win with a strike from Huntelaar 8 minutes from time.
