An horrific error by England goalkeeper Robert Green allowed the USA to equalise Gerrards early goal. Green fumbled a long distance shot after England had controlled the game. However he made some amends by making a fine save in the second half, deflecting a shot onto the post.

Slovenia top group C tonight after an uninspired victory over Algeria. For the second day in a row a match highlight was a goalkeeping error as the Algerian goalkeeper flapped at a weak shot and let the ball drop into the net to allow Slovenia victory.
Result.....Algeria 0 v 1 Slovenia
In a really entertaining game the USA fell two goals behind to an efficient Slovenia team. At half time it seemed that the match was as good as settled but the USA team scored twice in the second half to drag themselves back for a draw. Indeed the American teams could have won the game if a late goal had not been mysteriously disallowed for a 'foul' in the penalty area.
Result......Slovenia 2 v 2 USA
England produced one of the worst performances of the leading European teams with a spineless performance against Algeria. In a game of very few chances it was Algeria celebrating at full time while England will have to perform a major transformation if they are to progress in the competition.
Result...England 0 v 0 Algeria
In a tense match England at last showed their class with a dominating display against Slovenia. The only goal of the game was scored by Defoe in the 22nd minute. England created a host of clear chances, including Rooney hitting the post, but couldn't add to their goal and this led to an extremely tense last quarter to the game. England hung on to secure second place in the group while the unlucky Slovenian's leave the competition. Result....England 1 v 0 Slovenia
An amazing last minute goal from Donovan sent the USA through to the second round as winners of Group C. Algeria had their chances, hitting the bar in the first half, but the USA were deserved winners after creating some good opportuinities including Dempsey hitting the post from 6 yards, and for the second match in a row had a seemingly perfectly good goal disallowed.
In the end though the American pressure told and Donovan followed up a rebound off the Algerian goalkeeper to calmly slot the ball home.
Result....USA 1 v 0 Algeria
